Outside Interests

My husband and I live with three cats: Mama Cat (she rules the roost, or tries to), her son Porter (a gray-striped teddy bear), and Chai (warm, sweet, and spicy, like his namesake). They’re the cats in the sidebar pictures.

Gardening: I think of gardens and gardening as botanical painting – instead of paints and brushes, I use plants and flowers. My favorites are roses, daylilies, hostas, and hardy perennials. Fragrance is a plus. I’ve included pictures from my garden on these pages.

This includes a wide range of things – knitting, crocheting, needlework, and sewing. The medium that has infected me most deeply is glass, specifically flameworked glass. The picture shows me melting glass rods at an antique flameworking table at the Corning Museum of Glass.

In addition, I enjoy playing music (keyboard music of all periods and Medieval-Renaissance music on recorders), traveling, enjoying good food and drink with friends, and reading.
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.
