GMail and Blackberry

If you own a Blackberry, you can download the native Mail app to access your GMail and read and send messages. 
  • Log on to your Gmail account. 
  • Choose Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  • Make sure that POP is disabled and that none of the buttons are checked.
  • Choose Enable IMAP in the IMAP Access section.
  • Click the button: Send a text message to your phone.
  • Follow these instructions and then click the Close Window button.
  • Open the text message in your phone and click the link (or you can simply visit in your Blackberry browsers).
  • You will be prompted to enter your Google Apps for Elmira College account. Type the full e-mail address in this case and your password.

  • Click the Sign in button. Do not check the Remember Me button if you are using a public access or lab computer.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Continue button.
  • Fill out the next form by entering your cell phone number. Google will next sent a text message with a verification number indicating that your account has been confirmed.
  • Go to in your Blackberry browser scroll down the page skipping past the Google Mobile App download link.
Attention! Do not Download Google Mobile App as it requires making several permission
settings that may compromise the security of your phone.
  • Click the Gmail link under Individual Products.
  • Click Install Now.
  • If ask to confirm, click Download again. Wait until the download completes. 
  • Choose Run to start the Gmail app directly or OK to run it from your Blackberry Application screen, which appears as an icon like this:  
  • When prompted click the Allow button.
  • Enter your e-mail address and password to log on and download your mail to your Blackberry phone.
