Mapping U-Drive

  • As a Windows Vista or 7 user, your computer in the dorm is not actively connected to the Sweeney server, where your U-Drive is located. For this reason, you need to enter your Elmira College username and password when mapping a network drive.
  • Press the Windows key and the E key at the same time to open Windows Explorer.
  • Select Map Network Drive.

  • In the Drive box choose the letter U:
  • In the Folder box type \\sweeney\mtwain15$ where mtwain15 is your username. Please note that the $ symbol must be at the end of your username.
  • Make sure the Reconnect at logon box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button.

  • As Windows attempts to connect you will be prompted with an Enter Network Password box.
  • Enter mtwain14 in the Connect as: box
  • Enter your password in the Password box.
  • Click the OK button.

  • Your U-drive displays in a window. This network drive is also accessible from any networked computer in the computer labs. It’s important not to move or rename the Profile folder. This folder stores personal information as you roam from computer to computer on the network.
  • To create a shortcut to your U-drive, double-click My Computer.
  • Drag the icon mtwain15$ on ‘Sweeney’ (U) to your desktop.
  • Click Yes to create the shortcut.
  • The next time you log on, double click the shortcut and then enter your username and password to connect to the drive.

When you have finished using your computer always press CTRL + ALT + DEL, click the Log Off button, and then click Yes to confirm. Never leave your computer automatically logged on when you leave it for any period of time.
